Jardin des Tuileries & Arc du Carrousel
Historic royal garden of Catherine de' Medici along the Grand Axis of Paris
Created in 1564 by Queen Catherine de' Medici alongside the Tuileries Palace on former tile-making kiln fields (tuileries). Redesigned in 1664 by André Le Nôtre into a French formal masterwork.
The grand ceremonial avenue connecting the sovereign court of the Louvre to the infinite Western horizon of Paris.
The ghost of the 'Little Red Man of the Tuileries' was said to haunt the gardens before every major royal catastrophe or French revolution.
