Plaça de Sant Felip Neri
Tranquil Gothic square with shrapnel scars of 1938 and a peaceful fountain
Built over a medieval cemetery behind the cathedral. In the 18th century, the baroque Church of Saint Philip Neri was erected as the Oratorian headquarters.
Framed by Renaissance guild facades, acacia trees, and a quiet stone fountain. The church wall bears deep impact scars preserved as an eternal memorial to civil peace.
On January 30, 1938, a fascist aerial bomb collapsed the church basement sheltering 42 civilians, mostly children. Gaudí prayed at this church daily on his final walk in 1926.
