Torre Bellesguard (Casa Figueras)
Fortified neo-Gothic manor erected over the medieval castle of King Martí I
Built by Antoni Gaudí between 1900 and 1909 on the Collserola foothills over the royal palace ruins of King Martí l'Humà, the last monarch of the House of Barcelona.
Gaudí blended medieval Catalan Gothic castle masonry with modern catenary brick ribcages. The exterior is crafted from local slate, culminating in a watchtower crowned by a four-armed cross and an optical dragon profile hidden in the roofline.
Folklore claimed royal treasure was buried in the medieval foundations, inspiring 19th-century excavations that uncovered original 15th-century walls integrated by Gaudí into the gardens.
